Kiungo practical reading · Freight brokers, agents, 3PLs and their clients
The freight rate, the broker’s remuneration and the software fee are different amounts with different agreements behind them. Ask what each charge covers, who pays it and when it is due. There is no single broker percentage that describes every freight arrangement.
Confusion matters for small operators working on narrow margins. “No commission” on a platform does not mean the truck has no operating costs, that a broker works without remuneration or that every optional product is free.
Identify the three price conversations
- Freight: what the contracting parties agree for the actual movement, including the scope and payment terms.
- Broker services: the agreed commercial arrangement for the intermediary’s work and responsibilities.
- Software: subscription or usage charges for an optional product, as disclosed in its current plan.
Use the actual agreement rather than an assumed market percentage. Ask about all material amounts and exclusions before committing. If terms are unclear, resolve them with the relevant party instead of building a quote on guesswork.
Test the carrier’s own economics
Suppose, illustratively, a carrier is offered R25,000 and estimates R21,000 in complete included trip costs. The difference is R4,000 before any business costs omitted from the estimate. A further R1,000 charge borne by the carrier reduces that difference to R3,000.
The example does not establish a fair national rate or recommended fee. It shows why the carrier needs to know which costs it is responsible for. Use the free quote and profit tools with actual inputs, and distinguish margin on revenue from markup on cost.
Where free LX and paid Kiungo differ
Kweli LX is free for finding and posting suitable large-truck B2B loads, with no Kweli commission on the LX deal. Kiungo is a separate paid broker product supporting representation, mandates and broker-origin work.
Kiungo’s published model includes plan and activated-load charges rather than a commission on the broker’s margin. Check the current Hub plan card for prices, usage and trial terms before subscribing. Platform charges do not determine what a broker and its customers agree between themselves.
Make the final amount explainable
Before dispatch, each business should know the amount it has agreed, the service it must perform, any approved extras and the payment process. Keep invoices and supporting evidence consistent with those terms.
A fair-cost ecosystem depends on visible responsibilities and informed choices. It should let a small operator assess the work without losing its margin to an amount nobody explained.
Practical questions
Is there one standard freight-broker percentage?
No single percentage describes every agreement. Establish the actual remuneration, scope, payer and payment terms for the relationship.
Does free LX mean Kiungo has no charges?
No. LX is free with no Kweli commission on LX deals. Kiungo is an optional paid broker product with plan and usage terms shown in the Hub.
